At Ride In, we are committed towards helping anyone become a better surfer. Whether you’ have never touched a board, or currently at a level to push your limits, our team is made up of experienced, certified surf instructors passionate about achieving client’s goals.
We’ve been fine tuning surfers from all over the world since 2020. We are proud of our individual accomplishments, gaining a reputation as one of the first Surf Schools featured on Costa Rica’s number one TV network, Channel 7 as well as PX Sports Network’s with audiences across Latin America. We represent more than surfing; we are The Pura Vida lifestyle.
Costa Rica is known for having some of the finest, most consistent waves in the world. Our home surf break, Playa Esterillos Oeste, is a complex mixture of all levels packed into one diverse beach. This makes it perfect for learning. Nearby beaches like Playa Jacó and Playa Hermosa offer a variety of surf spots satisfying every level of surfer. What is always a plus our ocean is warm all year long.
Whether you are here for a few days or longer, Ride In will teach you how to catch the right waves while learning priceless skills, decorum and etiquette which will enrich you long after you become an expert.
We will teach you:
Basic correct forms of paddling transitioning to your feet safely.
Choosing the right waves for a successful take off
Maneuvering waves and obstacles safety, developing confidence, creating a constructive path towards achieving advance wave riding skills.
Basic Surf Etiquette, Ocean Safety
We will help you:
Fine tune technique, timing, developing life, equipment saving skills when paddling out in larger, consequential conditions.
Read the ocean during hazardous conditions in heavier, advanced surf situations.
Completing advanced maneuvers, refining style and control
Explore challenging local surf spots
Our instructors are not only amazing surfers but also trained ocean lifesavers. Whether it is the first session or your fiftieth, their experience will enable you to feel more confident, secure, armed with the skills towards having more fun while facing new challenges
Surf Sessions – Monday to Friday
Surf classes are about 2 hours per day; The daily schedule adapts to tides and conditions.
We meet 15 minutes before the posted Class Time for Stretching, Daily Briefing, Quick Surf Q&A, then it’s off to the Beach
Our instructors will pick the ideal location to surf for the day guiding the class from there.
Surf Video Review (Midweek)
One of the best ways towards achieving skills is a balanced approach. We feel watching yourself from behind the lens is the answer. In the middle of the week, we do a video analysis reviewing your various rides. It’s a different perspective viewing yourself which renders results. Along with proper coaching, it’s an easy, fun, relaxed way to correct bad habits, adding speed to progress, and achieving a more professional style.
Weekends Are Yours
Take time to rest, explore, or keep surfing on your own. You can:

Our surf camp is located directly on a seemingly endless, undeveloped beach, covered by the shade of trees full of tropical wildlife, tropical forests providing an ideal setting for learning, recharging, and catching consistent waves without crowds
Just a short walk down the beach discovers tide pools, perfect for swimming or snorkeling full of friendly reef fish overlooked by the iconic Mermaid, a bigger than life statue which has become a symbol of local culture. Esterillos Oeste also borders a wildlife refuge teeming with monkeys, sloths, birds, fossils, flora and fauna ideal for nature walks or bike rides.
It is all conveniently located just 2 hours and 20 minutes from San José International Airport (SJO), only 30 minutes from Jacó Beach and Playa Hermosa two of Costa Rica’s top surfing destinations.

We are beginners and wanted to get a surf lesson to help us out. Anthony and Roberto were great. Very informative instructions both in and out of the water. We had a group of 3 with varying skill level and they did a great job getting us all on some waves. I highly recommend Anthony and Ride In, we will be back for sure (probably this trip).
